Movie Night Fun: The Beginning of Magic

As I sit here looking back at where my movie nights came from, I hear my name being called from the basement. “MOM! Can you come put my roller skates on?”

Their dad is five feet away from them…

And I went anyways. Cause I’m a mom first and always.

Thinking about it a little deeper, I guess this is exactly the way the world wanted me to start my blog. The same way my movie nights did. Putting family first.

Making Movie Night Fun

I left a job I loved to be a mother to two beautiful blessings and a wife to a man I love more every day. Everything I do is for them. Creating these movie nights for them was easy when I enjoyed doing it and they enjoyed seeing the theme come alive every week.

As a stay at home mom, I learned to cook and bake. Which are two things I was never good at prior to this but learned to really enjoy. I also thought I wasn’t very creative prior to having kids, but that changed rather quickly also.

Combining creativity with dinner and movies? That sounded like a fun challenge I could definitely get behind. Because the smiles on their faces said it all.

How did my movie nights begin?

At the time I originally started my movie nights journey with my family, I had selfish intentions. I LOVE Disney World and have only been twice in my whole life. (Three times now at the time I’m writing this!) I had every intention of taking my family there as soon as we could save enough money to go.

But to do this, I thought it was important for my oldest daughter to know who a lot of the main characters were. But there was one problem…she refused to watch them.

So what’s the plan now?

I needed a way to make this fun. My non-princess liking, villain loving daughter did not want to watch Disney Movies! My heart was breaking. Doesn’t she understand how AMAZING they were?!?! I wasn’t going to let that stop me, I’m the mom after all! I’m in charge! (ha!)

My plan was to watch one movie a week for one year. That gave me plenty of time to introduce her to enough characters that she’d meet at the parks.

I needed to find a fun way to get her excited about the movies we were watching. So I started researching.

As a result, I found these themed movie night parties that people would have. It was almost like a mini birthday party. They made these fun snacks with cute tags on the table next to the dish, drinks with decorated cups that looked just like the dog from the movie.

They even decorated their family room and tables with all these extravagant decorations they either made themselves or picked up at some party store. It made it look like so much fun! I knew this was the direction I wanted to go in.

Where I went from there

There were just a few problems for me.

Firstly, I did not have the energy to plan a movie night with that much behind it.  Let alone try to do it every week.

Secondly, I just didn’t have the time or money to run around trying to find all these decorations for each and every movie I wanted to do.

I wanted to make it about more than the decor and the extra “things” people spent money on to make their blogs and Pinterest accounts to look nice.

So I spent some time thinking about it, I realized exactly what I wanted to do.

I needed to feed my family anyways, right? So why not just make the food the center of all this. Create and make dinner, snacks, and drinks that did all the talking for me. Making everything about the food.

I didn’t need to spend the time going crazy with it all, and I can still make it fun.

And guess what…it was!!! I let the food take us into the world of the movie.

After doing quite a few of these movie nights I was pretty proud of myself and what I’ve created. I even went as far as posting on my personal Facebook page to show people the fun we were having. No intentions of taking quality photos of what I was doing, because this was just fun for me. (And to go to Disney one day!)

It was such a hit, I had many people reach out saying how awesome and creative this was and was told I should start a blog. I brushed it off, cause I’m just a stay at home mom and that sounded like a lot of work. To be honest I didn’t believe I could do it.

I kept hearing “You’re so creative! I don’t have the time and patience to do something like that!”

“But you do!” I’d think to myself.  “If only I could just show you how easy it was!”

And here I am.
