We Can Be Heroes Movie Night Party

My kids have been begging me for this movie night. So now that I’ve gotten a few under my belt I felt comfortable enough to challenge myself to this We Can Be Heroes Movie night. Let me show you what my kids were SO excited about!

We Can Be Heroes Movie Night Menu

For this movie night, I went with Hero Sub Sandwiches. Not only would my kids gobble them down, but they were super easy! I also made Wheels Pasta Salad. Dessert was super fun! We had Lava Girls Lava Cake! And for our drink of the night, I had to go with Guppy’s Water. Sounds boring right? But there is so much you can do to make water more fun. I have all those suggestions for you guys here!

Hero Sandwiches – We Can Be Heroes Movie Night Recipe

Hero sandwiches were honestly the perfect go-to recipe for our movie night. Not only do my kids gobble down sandwiches like it’s their business, but these sandwiches are also super easy to make.

In my opinion, to make a Hero sandwich a true Hero it must be big! According to this article on Eater.com, the term hero came from the New York Herald Tribune said you had to be a “Hero” to eat it. Now the term is used interchangeably for any type of sub.

Check out the original article that explains where the term came from here: Eater – What’s the difference between a Hero, Sub, Grinder, and Hoagie?

For our Hero sandwiches, I bought two different types of French Bread, plain and everything bagel seasoning.

Slice off a big chunk of bread, put your favorite condiments, vegetables, and deli meat. It is really that easy.

My kids were definitely hero’s for eating these huge sandwiches!

Wheels Pasta Salad – We Can Be Heroes Movie Night Recipe

When thinking about my movie night menu, I found these wheel-shaped pastas and thought they would be perfect to go along with our movie night. Wheels is a character in the movie and one of my daughter’s favorites, so I felt like this was a perfect choice for us.

I opted to go with this Italian Pasta Salad recipe from Taste of Home. It was simple and easy to make and didn’t require a lot of vegetables that I knew my kids weren’t going to eat.

The only thing I changed is the wheel-shaped pasta instead of the colored rotini pasta like the recipe stated.

Whip up this pasta in no time! Check out the original recipe here: Taste of Home – Pepperoni Pasta Salad

Lava Girl Lava Cake – We Can Be Heroes Movie Night Recipe

Lava Girl Lava cake - We can be heroes recipe food

This was my first time making Lava Cake and it did NOT disappoint! My oldest daughter even went as far as to say I was the best dessert maker in the world and I can make this for her next birthday!

If you don’t already know, my family doesn’t really like chocolate. That is why I opted to make a white chocolate lava cake filled with white chocolate raspberry filling, instead of a traditional chocolate Lava Cake.

My other movie night I opted to make vanilla instead of the traditional chocolate, was my donuts for the wheels for my Cars Movie night. Check out that movie night here: Mommy’s Movie Magic – Cars Movie Night

This recipe had a few things I would change before you make it:

  • Cut down on the butter! The recipe calls for 1/2 cup, but I would most definitely opt for 1/4 cup instead. You will have butter come oozing out at you if you use the whole 1/2 cup.

  • Also, this recipe does not tell whether you what size ramekins to use. I had 8oz ramekins and the recipe only made 2 lava cakes. If you are using 4oz ramekins, you will make 4 of the lave cakes the recipe states.

So just be aware of those changes I suggest and yours should come out PERFECT!

Serve these up with some vanilla ice cream and you will NOT regret making this recipe. This warm cake with the ice cream is so yummy my kids couldn’t eat enough of it!

Guppy’s Water – We Can Be Heroes Move Night Recipe

Water? Really?! That’s the drink you chose for this movie night?!

YES! I am one of the biggest water drinkers and I will choose it over any other drink option.

Since Guppy uses water for her superpower, I knew I needed to use water for our movie night.

Instead of just leaving you with water, I opted to inspire you all with some infused water recipes I found from A Sweet Pea Chef. Her recipes are great options to change up your water game and give some sweet interesting water choices to your family!

I went very simple with mine and opted for Lemon and Lime infused water. I’m a simple girl when it comes to my water. So these were perfect for our movie night!

We Can Be Heroes Movie Night Crafts

Ojo’s Drawings of the Future Craft

we can be heroes craft

We opted for a super easy craft this time, because, well, it was the most apparent craft idea to me!

Ojo uses her drawings to see into the future.

So the girls decided to make their own drawings of the future! It really could be anything they wanted that would happen to them in the future.

My oldest drew about her going to gymnastics that night and my youngest drew a picture of her going to school!

Try this with your own kids and see how far into the future they can see!
