Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas Movie Night

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas Movie Night Menu - Food Ideas

I spent some time watching this movie and thinking long and hard about what I wanted to do for the food. In the movie, 2 out of the 3 shorts they have a big Christmas dinner with Turkey and the fixings.

I didn’t want to do that, I wanted it to be fun! So what is more fun than Mickey shaped EVERYTHING! Mickey Eggs, Mickey toast, Mickey Bacon, Mickey Cookies, Mickey Hot Chocolate!!! Let’s dive into how to make all these fun Mickey items with a Christmas twist!

Mickey Eggs - Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas Movie Night Dinner

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - Christmas Movie Night

Mickey Eggs were SUPER fun to make! I wasn’t sure this was going to even work but it turned out great!

First, I started  with these silicone Mickey and Minnie Molds I found at Walmart (I tried to link to them but they were only available in stores and not available online at all! Boo! So here is a good option for you to order from Amazon, Mickey and Minnie Cookie Cutters)

Here are some general tips for you:

– Spray your pan with non stick spray or butter. ALSO spray your mold so the eggs don’t stick to the mold.

– Let the eggs cook for a minute. Mix the eggs inside the mold to make room for the uncooked parts to be cooked.

– After the egg cooks for 2 minutes, flip the egg mold over to cook the other side through.

– Enjoy!

My kids LOVE eating eggs with ketchup (I personally can’t do it but they love it!) So for them, I added a Santa ketchup hat on top. They loved it!

Mickey Egg in a Hole

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - Christmas Movie Night

Another way to have some fun Mickey shaped food is to make a Mickey Egg in a hole!

The same set of Mickey cookie cutter from about (which you can find also HERE.) can be used to cut the Mickey shape out of the bread.

To make these you will need:

  • Bread (bigger slices work the best)
  • Eggs (you can used scrambled but over easy works better for seeing that Mickey shape)
  • a small Mickey cookie cutter

Follow these instructions for a Mickey Egg in a hole:

  1. Use the Mickey cookie cutter to cut out the Mickey shape in the bread. Gently tear out the Mickey shape to leave the hole.
  2. Preheat a pan or griddle to medium heat. Use butter or non-cook spray to grease the pan.
  3. Place your bread down on the pan.
  4. Crack an egg in the middle of the hole. You can also use scrambled eggs to pour in the middle of the hole also. (Over-easy eggs you can make the Mickey shape out better though)
  5. Cook for about 1 to 1.5 minutes.
  6. Flip the bread over to continue cooking on the other side for an additional 1 minute.
  7. Enjoy!

Mickey Bacon

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - Christmas Movie Night

To make this bacon was easier than you think!

Just use toothpicks and cook the bacon in the over to create the shape that you want.

First, Start with 1 long piece of bacon and shape it into a circle for Mickey’s head. Use a toothpick to hold the end pieces together.

Second, take another piece of bacon and tear it in half. Repeat the process for this smaller piece of bacon for his ear. Use the toothpick to connect the ear to the head section as well. Repeat for the other ear.

Finally you’ll want to cook you bacon on a foil lined baking sheet (it makes clean up a lot easier!) at 425 for about 20-30 minutes depending on how well done you want you bacon.

It’s that easy!

Mickey Oreos - Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas Movie Night Dessert

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - Christmas Movie Night

Such a super and simple dessert to make these look like Mickey! Let’s get started!

What you will need to make this recipe is:

– Regular Oreos

– Mini Oreos

– Chocolate wafers (red but white or green could work too!)

– Vegetable Shortening

– Sprinkles (Christmas sprinkles, red and green sprinkles, etc. Really any Christmas sprinkle will do!)

– Wax paper or something you can lay the Oreo’s out to dry

1. First pour your colored chocolate wafers into a bowl and add about 2 Tablespoons of vegetable shortening on top of the chocolate, and microwave for 1 minute. AND NO MORE. (the chocolate will burn if you cook for too long in one big spurt) Take the chocolate out and give it a good stir.

2. It will not be melted yet so place it back in the microwave for 15 seconds. Take the cholate out and stir. Continue at this until all the Chocolate is fully melted.

3. Pour out your sprinkles into bowls to get ready for dipping.

4. Take you regular Oreos and dip half of the Oreo into the chocolate. It should look like Mickey’s red pants at this point. Immediately dip the Oreo into your sprinkle of choice, moving it around to make sure all sides are covered in sprinkles.

5. Repeat with as many Oreo’s as you like. Leave to dry for 30 minutes or so.

6. After the chocolate has hardened, take a mini Oreo and seperate it in half. You should have 2 halfs of a mini Oreo at this point. Remove the creme from the middle of the mini oreo so you are left with just 2 mini cookies.

7. Slide one of the cookies in at the top of the Oreo where you think Mickey’s ear should go. Just be gentle and you may have to wedge it in there. The cookies will break if you try to push too hard. Repeat on the other side with the other cookie for the second ear.

8. Enjoy!

Mickey and Mickey Gingerbread Sugar Cookies

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - Christmas Movie Night

I couldn’t decide between actual Gingerbread cookies or sugar cookies that looked like the Mickey Gingerbread! I ultimately decided on these because I was able to get the cookie cutters for regular Mickey head and I could not find the Gingerbread man Mickey without special ordering it.

These came out WAY cuter that I even thought! Let’s dive into the How-Tos!

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - Christmas Movie Night

Grab some premade cookie dough to make your life easier. Or you can use my favorite recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction – Best Sugar Cookies

Roll out the dough until it is about 1/4 inch thick, or even less. Premade dough spreads more than homemade dough so  go head and make it on the thicker side.

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - Christmas Movie Night

Start by using these Mickey Mouse Cookie Cutters to cut your Mickey-shaped cookie out.

Cut out as many as you can and place them on a non-stick cookie sheet.

Take all the scraps from you dough and roll out the dough and repeat to get as many cookies as you can.

When you are ready bake your cookies at 350 for 8-10 minutes. DO NOT OVER BAKE. Take them out when they look done but not when they start to brown. They will harden as they sit. So let they sit and cool while you work on the icing.

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - Christmas Movie Night

If you want to make your life easier, grab this pre-made royal icing mix. It wont taste the same as homemade but it’s def a time saver.

Make you sure you grab these as well:

– Premade Royal Icing

– Food Coloring (these have all the colors you need for this recipe)

Piping Bags

– Number 5 Wilton Tip (Not necessary but nice to have!)

To make a simple Royal Icing Recipe you will need:

– 3 large Egg Whites

– 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

– 4 Cups of Powdered Sugar

– Black, red, green, white, and brown food coloring

Here are the steps for the icing:

  • On high speed in a stand mixer (or with a hand mixer), beat vanilla and egg whites until frothy and bubbly.
  • A little bit at a time, add in the powdered sugar until the sugar is dissolved. To keep the mess down, add a bit of sugar with the mixer on low and beat it just until it pulls it into the egg whites, turn the mixer up and mix it until incorporated. Repeat. When the sugar is incorporated, turn the mixer on high and beat until stiff peaks form. This takes about 8 minutes in a stand mixer and about 11 minutes with a hand mixer.
  • Add 1 Tablespoon of water and mix again. It should be at the perfect consistency where if the icing drips slowly off the whish attachment, and the melts back into the in bowl.
  • Separate out your icing into 5 bowls and dye them all according to this color: Black, red, green, white, and brown.
  • Fit you piping bags with the #5 Wilton tips.(If you are not using the tip, skip to next step)
  • Once they are all dyed, place all your icing into piping bags. If you are not using the piping tips, cut a VERY small hole at the bottom of your piping bag.
  • Pipe out your icing. Starting with Minnie’s bow if you are making a Minnie.
  • Next you will want to use the brown and pipe out the base of the whole cookie for the face. Fill the inside of the cookie with brown icing. Let it set and dry for 1 to 2 hours.
  • Now you can finish the rest of the cookie. Pipe on the eyes, mouth, white edging, and details for the cookies. (See pictures above or watch video all the way at the top for more detail about decorations!)

Santa Mickey Hot Chocolate - Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas Movie Night Drink

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - Christmas Movie Night

I kept seeing Santa Mickey cupcakes and the idea hit me to combine it with hot chocolate! I was so excited to get this recipe right! Let’s do it!

Literally all I did was dip my cups in chocolate, fill with hot chocolate and top it with whipped cream!

I wanted the rim of the cup to look like Mickey’s pants to make it more fun.

ALSO, I make my own whipped cream. I did this for 2 reasons:

1. Because I wanted to make the whipped cream red for the Santa hat. And…

2. Regular whipped cream would melt SO fast! I didn’t want that so I made my own that doesn’t melt! I can’t wait to share that trick with you!

First you will need:

– Red and white candy melts (use the left overs from making the Mickey Oreos!)

– Hot chocolate Mix

– Water or Milk (whatever you use to make hot chocolate with)

– Red Food coloring

– 2 cups of Whipping Cream, separated in half

– 2 tsp Vanilla Pudding, separated in half

-2 TBL Powdered Sugar, separated in half

– Oreos

– Hand/Stand

– Piping Bags

  1. Melt your red chocolate candies in the microwave for 1 minute. Continue mirowaving for 15 seconds at a time until melted.
  2. Dip your mugs in the red chocolate, enough to cover the edges and make Mickey’s pants.
  3. Repeat with melting the white chocolate candies. And place the melted chocolate in a piping bag.
  4. Cut the tips of the white piping chocolate off and pipe two white ovals for Mickey’s buttons on the mug.
  5. Mix together the 1 cup  whipping cream, 1 TBL of powdered sugar, 1 tsp of vanilla pudding, and about 1/2 tsp of red dye (You need a lot to dye something red, otherwise it will be pink) and mix together in the mixer until you start to get stiff peaks. It will take 5-10 minutes of beating to get this result so be patient.
  6. Once it is ready, place it in a piping bag and refrigerate it until ready.
  7. Repeat, but do not include the red food coloring because you want a white whipped cream this time.
  8. Take your chocolate dipped mugs and fill with hot chocolate. You want to fill almost all the way to the top.
  9. Top your hot chocolate with a layer or white whipped cream.
  10. Come in with your red whipped cream and pipe it up to create Santa’s hat.
  11. Take 2 Oreos and place them in the Santa hat for Mickey’s ears. Enjoy!
